2001 Summer Computer Simulation Conference (SCSC)
Best Student Paper Competition
Submission Deadline: May 15th, 2001

Awards will be given to the Best Student Paper Submission and the Best Student Paper Presentation at SCSC 2001. Each award consists of an achievement plaque and a monetary award of $100.  These awards have been approved by the SCS as annual awards.

To be considered for the competition, the lead student author must check the "Best Student Paper Competition" box on the SCS Manuscript Central website.  The paper must be submitted via SCS Manuscript Central no later than May 15th. The lead author of a Student Paper must have been a student (at least half-time) at the time the described research was completed and must have been the major contributor to both the written paper and to the research described in the paper.

Selection of Best Student Paper Submission

Prior to the conference, the SCSC 2001 Student Activities Committee will select a panel of reviewers who will select the winner for the Best Student Paper Submission.  The reviewers are responsible for reviewing each paper they receive and providing ratings as to the quality and correctness of the paper. The ratings supplied by each reviewer are tabulated for each paper, and the highest rated paper will be selected as the winner for the Best Student Paper Submission. While attendance at the conference is encouraged, students competing for this award will not be required to attend. The winning paper will appear in the printed conference proceedings.

Selection of Best Student Paper Presentation

The Student Activities Committee will also select a panel of judges to provide a review rating of the student presentations at the conference.  On Monday, July 16th a special Student Papers Session will be held at which the students will present their papers.  Based on both the submitted paper and the presentation, a panel of judges will select the Best Student Paper Presentation for SCSC 2001. The winning paper will appear in the printed conference proceedings. Note that all student papers will be scheduled for presentation throughout the three-day conference as part of the normal sessions.  Therefore, each finalist will present his/her paper twice: once at the regular session and once at the Best Student Paper session.

Cost of Conference

The conference registration fee for competitors is $55. Competitors will also be invited free-of-charge to the Awards Banquet during which the winner will be announced.  Students participating in the competition should make their plans accordingly.
