A Simulation Framework for Camera Sensor Networks Research

Faisal Qureshi and Demetri Terzopoulos

11th Communications and Networking Simulation Symposium (CNS 2008)
Ottawa, Canada, April 14-17 2008

Summary

We present our progress on the virtual vision paradigm, a unique synergy of computer graphics, computer vision, and artificial life technologies. In particular, virtual vision prescribes visually and behaviorally realistic virtual environments, called ``Reality Emulators'', as a simulation tool in support of research on large-scale camera sensor networks. We report on how virtual vision has facilitated our efforts to develop multi-camera control and scheduling algorithms for next generation smart camera networks. We report our success with using such a reality emulator---a reconstructed model of the original Penn station populated with numerous autonomous pedestrians---to develop novel solutions to challenging problems in smart camera networks.
