Summary
Network protection algorithms differ in the type of network failures they protect against (e.g., node or link failure), the performance measure they optimize (e.g., restoration time, algorithmic complexity etc.), and the topological approach they use for network protection (e.g., p-cycles, tree etc.). For this reason, it is difficult to make a proper comparison between the performances of two different algorithms. In this paper, we propose a generic simulation model that can be used to measure the performance of the protection algorithms based on different criteria, which will allow us to compare the performances of algorithms and determine which protection algorithm is more efficient for a network. The paper also includes sample simulation implementation and results.
