· Through the support of Northrop Grumman (financial sponsor), establishing a M&S track for the PKI Student Capstone Conference (April 28, 2011) for student teams throughout the Omaha metropolitan region, Nebraska and the Great Plains states to give student teams the opportunity to showcase M&S and visualization related projects and applications from a wide range of academic disciplines.    


The initiatives noted above represent a series of significant steps forward for PKI and the University of Nebraska in M&S and to formally engage  on a national and international level with affiliated universities and centers in this critically important area”.

PKI and the University of Nebraska—Recent Activities in M&S

Dr. Mike MCGinnis, Executive Director
of the Peter Kiewit Institute (PKI), University of Nebraska reports interesting news about M&S activities at PKI: “we are making progress in moving modeling and simulation forward at PKI and the University of Nebraska through the following initiatives.

 

· Establishment of a modeling and simulation student chapter sponsored by the Society of Computer Simulation, International;

· Standing up a multi-disciplinary M&S research cluster involving faculty based at PKI, and others from the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL);

· Through the generous support of SAIC (financial sponsor plus providing site licences for SAIC virtual M&S environment called OLIVE), establishing a new high school student summer academy of excellence in modeling and simulation;
