Comed, working with TRAX Corp, have developed three unit specific fossil simulators for three of its fossil units; Fisk 19, Waukegan 7, and Waukegan 8. The three units are all twin furnace but with three different turbine manufacturers. Fisk uses WDPF digital controls and Waukegan units uses Bailey digital controls. By using control software translators, the Comed simulators does not require any control system hardware to simulate the control systems. The controls all reside in the PCs. The Fisk simulator is entirely PC based and the Waukegan simulators uses the Bailey OIS 25 console for operator interface.

The Dresden is an all team effort of over 20 people in the last 15 years. I have been at the Dresden Simulator since 1981. In that time the simulator has moved from a GEPac 4020 to Honeywell 4500, add a SEL 32/77 then another, replace with Encore RSX 2000. Input/Output system from DTL to TTL to CMOS expansions. Some day to do I/O through Encore to RTP Distributed I/O. From eight panels to thirty panels in the simulator. What a wild ride.

Stephens Digital/AVIA Research We have been servicing the Flight Smulation industry for 15 years with form fit and function replacements of obsolete computer hardware including: analog to digital converters, digital to analog converters, full rehost of computer systems, digital I/O, servo replacements and system programming. I am interested in the possibility of "cross pollinating" with the power plant simulator industry. The OEM equipment, Singer Link, CAE and Redifusion are similar in both industries and I would be interested in discussing possible collaboration between our two related industries.
